Community Corner

Support Study Abroad Students!

You don’t have to leave the U.S. to explore the world. Each year AFS Exchange Students from all over the world come to the U.S. to study in high schools and live with host families. There are also hundreds of American students that go abroad while they are still in high school. These outstanding young ambassadors are eager to experience what it’s like to live as a member of a family, school, and community in in their new country.

Volunteer with AFS and you can support high schoolers through this transformative and exciting experience. Whether you are mentoring an international student living in your community, preparing an American student to go abroad, or helping to organize social and fundraising events. There are so many ways to be involved!

In addition to regular volunteers, we are currently looking for host families in Mercer Island for students arriving in August or September. There are students from over 40 different countries. Of course, you can choose to host the student for a year or a semester. Whether you are a traditional or un-traditional family, with or without kids, opening your home to an exchange student is a life-changing experience.
