Mercer Island High School student TJ Sheridan was named Mercer Island Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year at a Feb. 9 awards luncheon in Seattle.
Each year, every Boys & Girls Club in King County chooses an exceptional youth, based on a personal essay, involvement in the club, and references.
TJ is an amazing young man who started his connection to the club by volunteering with the K-1st grade group. He then became part of the MIBGC Keystone Club, a group of high school students dedicated to community service. He quickly became a very active participant and is now President of the Keystone Club. He was instrumental in spearheading the Keystone Haunted House held last October at the old Boys & Girls Club. In addition, TJ organized one of the club's Parent's Night Out events and planned and implemented activities for the K-1st grade group.

Through his actions, TJ has become a role model for the younger club members he's come in contact with. Not only does he share his time with the club, he has also shared his musical talents, which include singing, playing instruments and performing in the club talent shows.
"Beyond all of the success that TJ deserves, he is also just an incredibly wonderful human being to be around," said MIHS english teacher Erica Hill. "He brings a light and sparkle of energy to everything he does. He is truly a beautiful human being inside and out. Anyone lucky enough to come in contact with this young man will be forever positively impacted."
