Boys Lacrosse Lead Division With 7-3 Victory Over Kangs

Southwest Conference leaders Mercer Island next faces Bellevue (13-2-0), Saturday, May 5 in an 8 p.m. start at Islander Stadium.

continued its dominance in boys Southwest Conference play by overcoming a slow start to defeat Lake Washington 7 - 3 in high school lacrosse action, Monday at Lake Washington High School. 

The win gave the Islanders 12 on the season and a game-and-a-half conference lead over second-place Lake Tapps heading into the final two weeks of regular season play.

Hayden Riesman lead the Islanders with two goals and five ground balls, while Carlos Barrios was sure in net, stopping eight Lake Washington shots.

After getting out of the blocks slowly, MI overcame a 1 - 0 first quarter deficit to outscore the Kangs 2 -1 in the second to knot the game at two goals each at the half. 

In the third, coach Ian O'Hearn lit a fire under the Islanders who came out to blank Lake Washington 3 - 0 to take-back control of the contest.  In the end, the Islanders scored two more in the fourth to secure the win.

Lake Washington was led by Cody Bernstein with a goal and two ground balls.  Zach Oelsner and Carson Brown also scored for the Kangs, while goaltender Jonah Friedl stopped 11 Islander shots.

Mercer Island (12-5-0) next faces Bellevue (13-2-0), Saturday, May 5 in an 8 p.m. start at Islander Stadium on Mercer Island.  Lake Washington (8-7-0) next faces Curtis (5-7-0), Friday May 4 in an 8 p.m. start at Curtis High School in University Place.
