'House Hunt' on Mercer Island
There are a number of ways to get away from the rain in home design.
Mercer Island Patch's Weekly feature "" is always interesting to me because I've lived on this island with my now-grown family for many years, practiced residential design here before that.
This very special island of just 22,000 people in the middle of a lake surrounded by 3 million people is a very nice, unique place to live- if you don't mind rain (in a previous blog post, I had more to say on that subject).
Many airline pilots (and others) chose to live here after seeing the rest of the world. When my custom clients were transferred before their new home was completed, a Northwest Airlines pilot and his wife bought the almost finished home.

A way to deal with our abundant rain is to have a 2nd place elsewhere. We soon built a weekend home in Sunriver, Oregon. The scale model (shown above) of the Mercer Island house lead me to make one of the second home also.
