A flat roof gives the architect designing it many advantages, quite a few fewer to the homeowner.
Mid-Century Modern homes including our first one in Innis Arden (see the New Homes Guide Magazine cover pictured) often had dead flat roofs. Nowdays "torch-down" roofs are used rather than the earlier hot tar roofs. The first thing we did when we bought our "tear-down" some 25 years ago was to tear off the old cracked tar roof and then install first 4" of urethane insulation and then a new torch-down roof which has lasted pretty well these many years. However the roof was developing some leaks; it needed a bit of careful renewal.
It was time to recoat it with Henry HE107- a well-recommended rubberized elastomeric asphalt product. My photographs herewith tell the story,
