Rocket Challenge a Success!
NYHS Physics students successfully meet the Aerospace Industries Association Team America Rocket Challenge and are headed to Washington DC!
The Aerospace Industries Association launched the 2013 Team America Rocket Challenge and NYHS students successfully met the challenge!
The challenge: build a rocket that can hit a precise altitude of 750 feet, has a total flight time of 48-50 seconds, and recovers a raw egg safely with a 15 inch parachute.
A record setting 725 teams from Spain to California accepted the challenge. The cut off score to make the finals was 16.12, which is a testament to all the engineering and design efforts of all the teams involved in this year's challenge.
NYHS seniors Jessica Schwartz, Joel Jacobs, and Itai Amon qualified for the national Team America Rocketry Challenge finishing with one of the best scores in the state!
They will now be off to Washington, DC representing the school and the state. . Their rocket soared 752 feet and descended in 46 seconds, amazingly close to the target. They designed their approach using computer simulations to determine the optimal design, weight, and type of engine.
This was a Northwest Yeshiva High School Physics class exercise under the guidance of Mr. Peter Brodkin. Congratulations to Mr. Brodkin and his students and NYHS! Click the link below to watch the video made by proud father, Steven Schwartz!
