There's a huge advantage for architects' design clients (as well as said architects) in a good long-time architect/builder collaboration. Over these many years I've been privileged to work with a number of true craftsmen- learning a lot about the very real art of custom to-order homebuilding from all of them. Every one of them worked with loyal sub-contractors who invariably did a splendid job for me and my always-appreciative clients.
As Chairman of the Seattle Times/American Institute of Architects AIA "Home of the Month" Program, I met a number of really good custom home builders which I then featured in the Times Real Estate pages and the "Roto" magazine. Here's an example of what we were able to accomplish:
