The Italian operatic tradition captivated a large portion of the American opera-loving public throughout the 20th Century. Wave after wave of wonderful Italian opera-singers, from Caruso to Pavarotti, came to America for some of their greatest successes. Three of the most popular of these quintessential Italian opera singers were Amelita Galli-Curci, Giulietta Simionato and Cesare Siepi. Their gorgeous Italian voices and dramatic intensity were evident in the opera house and captured on recordings. Come to three lectures at the Mercer Island Library to learn about these fabulous Italian singers. The preview lectures will be presented by Norm Hollingshead, who supplements his commentary with recorded musical excerpts, some quite rare.
