IMS presents "The Phantom Tollbooth"

I went to see my eldest in his first "real" school play last night.  The auditions, the hours of afterschool rehearsals, the excitement and utter panic of arriving to opening night at 6:02 pm instead of 6:00 pm to put on makeup...

I went to watch my son and enjoy seeing him up on the stage...but I got a big surprise.  Oh, I enjoyed my son all right (Minister of Meaning, by the way)...but I also enjoyed seeing the other 38 kids up there just as much!  They pulled off every aspect of this play...lighting, set changes, ACTING!  I mean, my goodness, they did everything...even the intermission snacks were sold to us by the "word merchants"!

Of course, IMS has a valient drama teacher in Ms. Robson who has earned my admiration.  Imagine the fortitude this woman has with taking on 39 middle schoolers and having it come together so beautifully!  (Getting chores done at my house can turn into a "production", at times, and I only have to deal with 3 children...)

The Phantom Tollbooth is a perfect choice as a play for kids and adults.  It has such a lovely way of using language to show the stuggle between absurdity and common sense...and the kids were just fabulous with it!

"I know one thing for certain: it's much harder to tell whether you are lost than whether you were lost, for, on many occasions, where you're going is exactly where you are. On the other hand, you often find that where you've been is not at all where you should have gone, and, since it's much more difficult to find your way back from someplace you've never left, I suggest you go there immediately and then decide."

Find (or lose) yourself this Friday or Saturday night at IMS...starting at 7pm.

All in favor...say "Hear, Here!"

UPDATE

OK...I admit it...they blew me away last night!  I thought I knew what was to come, I mean, I've already seen the show, right?

WRONG!

These kids are just getting into the swing of this showbiz stuff and enjoying every minute...and I am so grateful to be given the chance to see it!

Final performance is tonight and I simply can't wait!  Thank you to the actors, thank you to the incredible Ms. Robson, thank you to the parents manning the door, watching over our children, and bringing the refreshments.  Thank you, IMS!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Big hug to our "Patch" for letting me post so many photos!  I added even more!  (I just couldn't help myself!)
