I am lucky in that I can truly agree with Andy Warhol’s comment that “Work is more fun than fun”
My paintings celebrate my love of the outdoors and my fascination with the play of light and color under natural light. With the immediate surroundings permeating all of my senses, painting outside leads to more magical colors and inspired brushstrokes. These paintings began as plein air studies that were translated to larger works in the studio. “Lopez Island Fog” and “Lopez Island Farm” came about during an end of summer camping trip on Lopez. “Bottle Beach Meadows II” and “Bottle Beach Wetlands” were inspired on a trip to the coast near Westport. “Ballard Bridge Sunset” was inspired while at our neighborhood Fremont Peak Park.
Born in Seattle, my siblings and I camped and hiked most all of our summers with our schoolteacher parents. It was a natural development to tuck my paints into a backpack. When my three children were in their teens, I returned to school and obtained my BFA degree in Painting and Printmaking at Cornish College of the Arts in 2001. I have continued painting studies with Mitch Albala, Charles Emerson, , Catherine Gill, Tom Hoffman, and Kimberly Trowbridge.
I currently live in Fremont and teach painting and printmaking for the Seattle Parks Department and the Dale Chiluly–founded “Seniors Making Art” program. I also paint Home and Garden portraits on commission.
You can view more of my work at the “Women Painters of Washington Gallery” in the Columbia Center in Seattle, “Main Street Gallery” in Chelan, and at the Ecmonds Arts Festival and the Bellevue Festival in the summer. I welcome prearranged visits to my Ballard studio at the Salty Dog Pottery building, the oldest working artist cooperative in seattle.
