MIHS Girls Tennis Wins State Championship

New head coach Mindy Blakeslee, leading the lady Islanders to their 35th State Title, said "I am so proud of our girls. Winning this title was truly a team effort.  We needed each and every point to eek out a victory."

 Blakeslee noted that "the conditions were not ideal, with winds up to 30mph on Friday, but the girls stayed focussed, and adjusted their games to the wind, which is not easy!"  

The Islander's doubles team of Kelly Crandall and Nora Tan took 2nd place at the State tournament after losing a tight match in the championship match to Grace Porter and Kate Jameson 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 of Bainbridge Island. In the Semi-finals, Crandall and Tan beat Carley Riehl and Carley Schmidt of West Valley, Yakima (6-0, 6-3).

Coach Blakeslee was proud of singles player, Senior Chelsea Bailey: "Bailey, who is headed to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (D1) in the fall, battled back after a tough loss to Sasha Carter of Bainbridge, with a decisive 6-0, 6-0 thumping of Sierra Troxel of Hanford, earning a 3rd place finish in singles. "

The doubles team of Sophia Gage and Erica Baska took 8th place after losing to Meghan Cassens and Kamilla Nowased, 6-0, 6-2.

Bailey, Crandall, Tan, Gage and Baska were all named to the All KingCo 1st team, Bailey was also named KingCo MVP.

Karissa Walker and Carissa Ham were named to All KingCo 2nd team.  See details below.
