Great Local Getaway: Tennis Anyone?

You are invited to attend the Outreach and Performance Tennis Center Grand Opening event on Saturday, February 11, from 3-6pm.

Calling all eastside tennis players - and the community at large!

All are invited to visit and tour a brand new tennis facility in Kirkland that features six standard-sized tennis courts and six additional 36-foot tennis courts designed specifically for children.

The Outreach and Performance Tennis Center in the Totem Lake area (10822 117th Pl NE) is the massive manifestation of TOPs’ mission “to enhance the lives of at-risk and low income youth in King County through affordable tennis, education and fitness.” But it will be a open to all. It will be only the third public tennis facility in the under-served greater Seattle area.

“Although our mission is to provide low-cost tennis programs for youth, we are dedicated to providing tennis for everyone,” said Travis Roach, TOPs executive director and manager of the center. “The center is designed to be a safe, positive place for kids.”

The Grand Opening event includes tennis exhibition matches, on-court activities, prizes, refreshments, volunteer registration, facility tours and opportunities to donate and sponsor programs.

Islanders Susan Costa, Chick Hodge and Lori Brillhart have been involved in the nonprofit organization Tennis Outreach Programs-otherwise known as TOPs-whose mission is to provide tennis lessons and programs for low income youth. Throughout the years, serving the area's youth has been more and more challenging due to overcapacity at facilities. The new Outreach and Performance Tennis Center will now be a permanent home for TOPs programs. Former Manager, Travis Roach, is the Executive Director of the facility.

The new tennis center is open to the public daily, from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and will be renting out courts for singles, doubles, teams and events during the day, evening and on weekends-when youth lessons are not being held.
