Mail Scam Afoot In Mercer Island
Police warn of bogus "hold mail" requests at local post office.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - Police are warning island residents to be aware of a mail scam targeting postal customers.
The scammers call the post office and place a hold-mail request in someone's name with instructions to release mail to the their godson, goddaughter, or other relative, police say. Then, the scammers go to the post office and give their name as the impostor relative and take the mail.
Police say that if you notice a drop in mail volume, check with the post office and see if there's been a hold-mail request placed.
