Mercer Island Councilwoman Will Run For Clibborn's Seat

Bellevue School Board President My-Linh Thai announced her bid for the seat on April 2.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - Mercer Island Councilwoman Wendy Weiker is entering the race to replace retiring state Rep. Judy Clibborn in the 41st Legislative District. Bellevue School Board President My-Linh Thai announced her bid for the seat on April 2.

Weiker enters the race with the endorsement of Clibborn, a Mercer Island resident. Clibborn announced her retirement in March after serving in the Legislature since 2002.

"I admire Wendy's passion for serving our communities. She has the ability to work collaboratively and make a positive impact on our quality of life," Clibborn said in a press release endorsing Weiker.

Weiker was first elected to the Mercer Island City Council in 2015. Her term ends in 2019. If elected, she would leave Council about one year early.

“I hope to carry on the legacy of Representative Clibborn – one of the most highly respected public servants that our state has seen," Weiker said in her announcement.

In addition to Clibborn, Weiker has the endorsements of Renton Mayor Denis Law and former Sammamish mayor Don Gerend. Weiker works in public relations at Puget Sound Energy, and is a University of Washington graduate.
