Mercer Island Parks & Recreation Receives WRPA Spotlight Marketing Award

Mercer Island Parks & Recreation Receives WRPA Spotlight Marketing Award

At its annual banquet on April 30, the Washington Recreation and Park Association (WRPA) awarded the Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department with the Marketing and Outreach Spotlight Award for Promotional Materials.
The Mercer Island Parks and Recreation Department was recognized for the development and production of a six-part video series. Among this series, two feature videos include the Parks and Recreation Department’s Donations video, highlighting donation opportunities at all levels, and also a 17-minute educational piece that takes an in-depth look at the many unique works of the department.

“These videos are a great example of an affordable community outreach effort made possible by creatively utilizing existing resources and in-house talent,” said Jessi Bon, Sammamish Parks and Recreation Director and WRPA Board Member. “Congratulations, Mercer Island!”

In addition to accepting the award, co-producers Jana Raasch, P&R Business and Operations Superintendent, CMD, and Bre Keveren, Marketing and Sales Coordinator, presented the six-part video series at the WRPA Annual Conference on April 30.

“We feel we created a valuable marketing tool at a very low cost,” said Raasch. “We are proud of the entire video series. In addition to promoting parks and recreational opportunities, it is also a great tool to showcase the many wonderful things the community of Mercer Island has to offer.”

In addition to the two feature videos on the department as a whole and on donation opportunities, the four other videos focus on the community center. This project was completed largely in-house, utilizing City staff to incorporate voice, photos, concepts and copywriting.
