MIGB Team Earns Date with UW Women

Last year's 5th grade select girls basketball team wins shoot around with players from the Women's University of Washington Basketball Team.

Last year the Mercer Island select girls’ basketball teams sold raffle tickets to support the program. The team that sold the most tickets earned themselves something special, a chance to meet and practice with the University of Washington’s women’s basketball team.

On Oct. 3, the winners of last year’s raffle challenge, MIGB 5th grade white team, cashed in that winning ticket.

Members of last year’s team were invited to Alaska Airlines arena at Hec Edmundson Pavillion and not only met the women Huskies, but participated in drills lead by assistant coach and member of the 2004 championship Storm team, Adia Barnes. The Mercer Island girls played games, took photos and received autographs from the UW women. UW seniors Mackenzie Argens, Char Barlow, Regina Rogers and Mollie Williamson lead the group of now 5th and 6th graders in games and competitions, many of which the Islander girls won.
