MISD's Plano and Island Vision's Pirzio-Biroli Named 'Earth Heroes'
The King County Executive's Office will honor MISD Superintendent Gary Plano and Lucia Pirzio-Biroli with the King County Earth Hero at School award at Maplewood Greens in Renton on April 26.
King County Executive Dow Constantine will honor two representatives from the Mercer Island School District (MISD) on April 26 with a King County Earth Hero at School award. Recipients share a passion for conserving natural resources and reducing waste.
Awardees from Mercer Island are Dr. Gary Plano, MISD Superintendent and Lucia Pirzio-Biroli, current head of local environmental non-profit Island Vision and volunteer in the community, school district, and at West Mercer Elementary School.
"These stewards of the environment are our heroes - for conserving resources, protecting the environment, and spreading the word about sustainable practices," said Executive Constantine. "I am proud to recognize them for their hands-on commitment to the planet."

The awards ceremony will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Greens banquet hall at the Maplewood Golf Course, 4050 Maple Valley Hwy., Renton.
