Explore the Library's Nature Garden, MIPC's Rummage Sale and More: Play Date!

Fun activities and some sweet deals for the whole family this upcoming week, May 2 – May 9

May 4: Indoor Playground at the

  • 2 pm to 4:30 pm
  • Kids six and under accompanied by an adult caregiver will enjoy zipping around on scooters and playing with balls, giant blocks and other fun toys. A great place for you and your child to get out of the rain and run, play, socialize and have fun.

  • Cost: Mercer Island residents, $3.25 per child, non residents, $4.50 per child. Program sponsored by the Mercer Island Preschool Association.

May 5: Chinese Language Story Time at the

  • 10:30 am to 11:10 am
  • For ages families with children ages three to seven.
  • Join Nina Li Smith as she shares stories, songs and fingerplays in her native Mandarin Chinese language.
  • Cost: Free

May 5: Exploring Nature’s Secrets at the

  • 2 pm to 3 pm
  • For children ages five to ten with an adult caretaker
  • Join Sarah Heller for a hand-on program of activities and games. Discover the secrets of nature.  Some activities will be held in the new Mercer Island Library Discovery Garden.
  • Cost: Free but pre-registration online required and spaces are limited. 

May 5: PJ Story Time at

  • 6:30 pm
  • For kids three and older with an adult caregiver.
  • Enjoy story time with Ken Hammer and refreshments.
  • Cost: Free

May 6: Finding Kind Showing at the

  • 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
  • For tweens and teens ages 11 and up and parents
  • Don’t miss the opportunity to see this award-winning documentary about how to recognize and combat female bullying. Following the film, a panel of experts will facilitate a post-film discussion and the audience will be given the opportunity to ask questions.

May 7: Teen Zone at the

  • 1:45 pm to 3:45 pm
  • For teens
  • Hang out, do your homework, play board games or just chat. Teen Zone is a great place to complete group projects for school or catch up with friends. Mondays after school with some exceptions.

May 9: Garden Critters at the

  • 10 am to 10:45 am
  • For kids ages four to six with an adult caretaker
  • Meet wild animals through stories and the take a walk through the library garden and see where some birds and animals live. Make a pine cone critter too out of natural materials.
  • Cost: Free but pre-registration online is required and space is limited.

May 12: Draw, Paint and Write in a Nature Journal at the

  • 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
  • For ages eight to eleven, parents welcome
  • Join artist Molly Hashimoto to learn how to draw, paint and write about nature. 
  • Cost: Free but pre-registration online is required and space is limited.
