This week, I have had questions from two potential home sellers asking what to do about popcorn ceilings.
The quick and dirty of dealing with popcorn ceilings in your home:
1. Have the popcorn tested for asbestos. You can do this by taking a small sample the size of a quarter to a testing lab to have it evaluated for a reasonable fee.

2. If it is asbestos, have it professionally remediated. For safety first, then also to provide evidence of that safe removal to a potential buyer of your home. Once removed, you will likely be able to do a little drywall patching then paint it like there was never any popcorn there.
3. If it's not asbestos, the cleanest and best looking way I've found to get rid of it is to cover it with 1/4" drywall.
