During those work hours, crews will open the bridge to traffic for 30 minutes to ease congestion.
Crews could extend the length of the closures to traffic, depending on work progress. All work is subject to weather and tidal activity.
During the closures to vehicle traffic, crews will make temporary repairs to fractured bolts. The bolts are part of a system that guides and connects the drawspans together. They are located in an area that is accessible only when the drawspans are open.
The repair is necessary to ensure the bridge can continue to operate, serving both vehicle and marine traffic, through storm season. WSDOT has planned repair work in two phases and there will be additional drawspan closures in the weeks ahead. Those dates will be announced as they are scheduled.
WSDOT is developing a plan for permanent repairs to occur, likely in summer 2020. WSDOT will announce those dates when they are scheduled.
The SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge is a critical connection between Kitsap and Jefferson counties for the 18,000 vehicles that use it daily. WSDOT will keep travelers up to date on bridge closures at Hoodcanalbridge.com.
