3 Dead In Pierce County Crash That Sparked Brush Fire

Three people are dead and one is in critical condition after a horrific crash in rural Pierce County.

ROY, WA - A horrific crash near Roy Monday afternoon left three people dead and one in critical condition. The crash also started a large brush fire, according to firefighters.

The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of SR 72 and 8th Avenue South. A minivan traveling south on 8th Avenue apparently ran through a stop sign and hit an SUV traveling westbound along SR 702, according to state patrol.

The victims were apparently not wearing seat belts, according to firefighters. One driver has been arrested on charges of vehicular homicide and DUI.

The brush fire after the crash grew to about 10 acres before firefighters could get it under control. The fire started because the crash knocked over a utility pole.
