795 Coronavirus Cases In Pierce County; 16 Dead

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department has confirmed three dozen new coronavirus cases and two more deaths, including a woman over 100.

TACOMA, WA — Pierce County health officials confirmed an additional 36 cases of the new coronavirus Wednesday and reported two more deaths linked to COVID-19. The two latest patients to die from the virus were identified as a man in his 80s from Buckley and a woman over 100 from Tacoma, both with underlying health conditions.

Pierce County has the third-highest number of COVID-19 cases in Washington, with 795, and 16 residents have died.

Tacoma accounts for the highest number of cases in the county, with 287 confirmed, followed by Lakewood at 66 cases.

Temporary coronavirus care center opens in Tacoma motel

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department said a Tacoma motel has been transformed into a temporary care center for people unable to self-isolate of quarantine at home. The News Tribune reports the motel is located two miles south of Tacoma Mall and is be staffed by medical professionals.

Patients who need assistance must have a known exposure to COVID-19 or a suspected or known infection, and be stable enough for discharge from the hospital. Health officials said all potential guests must first be evaluated by a medical professional. Hospitals, emergency rooms and shelters should contact the care line at 253-820-4684 to learn more.
