After Father Drowns In Lake Kapowsin, His Family Faces Eviction

Anthony Fuentes drowned Sunday - and now his family is facing eviction from their home.

GRAHAM, WA - The family of a 44-year-old man who died after slipping underwater at Lake Kapowsin on Sunday is facing two tragedies. Anthony Fuentes left behind a wife and two sons after his drowning on Sunday. On top of that, his wife, Kassi, received word on Monday that the family would be evicted from their home.

Fuentes was fishing on the lake Sunday with his 12-year-old son. His son's raft drifted out into the lake, and Fuentes swam out to retrieve it. But he slipped underwater, and his son had to race to get help. Fuentes later died at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup.

On Tuesday, Kassi Fuentes wrote in a Facebook post that she was told on Monday - the day after Anthony's death - that she would be given an eviction notice on July 1.

Even more tragically, Fuentes found out that her husband's mother and brother also drowned on Lake Kapowsin in the late 1970s.

"I feel like the whole world is caving in on me," she wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. "Anthony had gotten behind on the rent because the owner was going back on her deal to sell it to us, bringing in investors to sell it out from under us, and anthony couldnt make rent payments while also trying to save money for a different place to live. He did what he could to give the owner as much as possible, he had even payed her $2600 on June 1st and was trying so hard to make more. I begged the owner to work with me, take pity on our situation and she didnt care that I just lost him one day before."
