DUI Crash Caused By Animal Never Seen In Wash., Man Tells Cops
Even if the man didn't smell like alcohol, police probably would not have believed his story.

MIDLAND, WA - His truck was tipped on its side and resting in a ditch, and the driver was clearly drunk. A Pierce County deputy noted that the man's speech was slurred and his movements were uncoordinated.
Still, the driver tried to give an explanation why he had crashed his truck: he had to swerve to avoid hitting an armadillo that was crossing the road. You probably already know, but armadillos don't live in Washington - the closest they get to the Pacific Northwest is far southeastern Colorado.
The driver did all this while still sitting in the drivers seat of the tipped-over Chevrolet Silverado. The accident happened near 7 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of 106th Street Southeast and 25th Avenue East.

Eventually, the man climbed out of the truck and, with assistance from Central Pierce firefighters, was taken to a patrol car. The 54-year-old was eventually arrested on charges of DUI, driving without an ignition interlock device, and third-degree driving with a suspended license.
Deputies never found the armadillo.
