Fundraiser Set Up For Local Child With E. Coli Poisoning

Friends and family are raising money for a family whose baby was stricken with E Coli. poisoning.

PUYALLUP, WA - Friends and family have established a fundraiser for a local couple whose young son has been stricken with the form of E. coli that produces Shiga toxin.

The GoFundMe fundraiser is seeking $25,000 to help Mandy and Aaron Adams with bills and medical expenses while they care for their son, Wyatt. Wyatt went to the hospital in early February suffering from a fever and gastrointestinal distress. It was confirmed on Feb. 5 that Wyatt had contracted E. coli Shiga toxin poisoning.

The most common form of E. coli Shiga toxin poisoning is known as E. coli O157, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The illness can come from a variety of sources, including under-cooked beef, unwashed vegetables, unpasteurized dairy products, or even swimming in contaminated water.

"This go fund me is to help Aaron and Mandy financially with expenses they face while being in the hospital with little Wyatt. Doctors say it could be another 2-3 weeks before Wyatt will be well enough to go home," Powell wrote on the page. "We all know too well how medical and everyday life bills can come stack up and we would love for the Adams to not have to worry about anything other than Wyatt's health right now. "
