Hazmat Team Called To Puyallup Farm Twice In Same Day

The Pierce County hazmat team went to the farm along 52nd Street East twice on Friday due to possible ammonia leaks.

PUYALLUP, WA — The Pierce County hazmat team was called to the same farm west of downtown Puyallup twice on Friday over ammonia leaks.

The hazmat team first responded to the farm, near 52nd Street East and 66th Avenue East, at around 8 a.m. Friday. One worker was injured by the leak, and was treated at the scene and released, according to Central Pierce Fire. The department had initially reported the worker went to the ER.

The team went back to the farm around 1 p.m. for an equipment malfunction and to investigate if any anhydrous ammonia had spilled. The farm was not evacuated of workers during the afternoon response as it was during the morning.

The Pierce County Fire Marshal was investigating both incidents, according to Central Pierce Fire.
