Local ladies start new womens consignment sale event

Shop and sell new and gently used women's items at the Preloved Threads Consignment Sale Event May 13-17 at the Edgewood Grange.

After several years of participating in the great kid’s consignment sales in the area, like Just Between Friends at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup, two local ladies decided they wanted to create a place for mom and other women to sell their items, too.

The popularity of kid’s consignment sales have grown tremendously in the past few years as kids can outgrow their clothes and toys in literally just days! Women don’t necessarily outgrow their clothing like kids do, but they do get tired of wearing the same things all the time and, frankly, they deserve to switch up their wardrobes now and again!

After meeting each other while consigning, Ashley and Karla became friends and ultimately business partners when they decided to create Preloved Threads to fill this niche in the south sound. The first Preloved Threads sale is May 13-17 at the Edgewood Grange at 1806 Meridian Ave S, just up the hill in what’s known as the North Hill of Puyallup.

There are three things that make consignment sales successful: consignors, shoppers and volunteers. The duo is currently recruiting consignors for their first sale. With 40+ consignors on the books already, the more the merrier. ”We want to offer a wide variety of options for shoppers and we can do that by bringing in more consignors to offer items of all different types and sizes,” states co-owner Karla Slate.

Slate urges potential consignors to take a break from yard sales, eBay, Craigslist, and online buy/sell/trade sites to try Preloved Threads. “At this sale, there is no need to take multiple photos of items to post online, no trying to meet up with people who don’t show, and your items won’t be haggled over. Plus, you‘ll get check with your proceeds about two weeks after the sale, much faster than a consignment shop,” she says.

Consignors can choose to be as hands on or off as they want to at Preloved Threads. Consignors can choose to prepare, price and tag their own items, which will earn them at least 60% of the sale price of their items. For folks who really want to sell their items but neither have the time or patience to do it themselves, there is a valet consigning option in which consignors can earn 40% of the sale price of their items to have someone else do it for them.

Sales like Preloved Threads don’t employ staff. What makes these sales run are the volunteers that serve as ”employees” during the sale. Volunteers help with everything from setting up, stocking, cleaning, cashiering, monitoring dressing rooms, and more. Regular consignors can earn up to 70% on their items by volunteering and valet consignors can earn up to 45%.

When it comes time to open the sale, shoppers will enjoy paying a fraction of retail prices for new and gently used merchandise. A gently loved Coach purse for $15 - why not? And, most items are half price on Sunday!
