Man Rescued From Treetop Near Puyallup

Police and firefighters spent several hours Thursday night into Friday morning rescuing the man stuck 80 feet up in a tree.

PUYALLUP, WA - Local police and firefighters spent several hours overnight trying to rescue an apparently suicidal man who was threatening to jump from a tree. The man was about 80 feet off the ground, according to Central Pierce firefighters. They were able to get him down safely, but the rescue took several hours.

The incident took place near the intersection of 160th Street East and 74th Avenue East in the South Hill area. Graham firefighters were initially called out at 10 p.m. by Pierce County Sheriff's deputies. A special rescue team from Central Pierce fire responded to the scene to complete the rescue.

At one point, the man in the tree fell unconscious and dropped down several limbs in the tree. Firefighters were able to use a ladder truck to reach him and get him down. The man was rescued by about 1:30 a.m. Friday.
