Mercy Ships Provides Free Medical Care to Underprivileged Countries

Tim Maloney of Mercy Ships (http://www.mercyships.org) spoke at the downtown Puyallup Rotary on Wednesday February 5th. 

Mercy Ships is an international organization staffed by volunteers who bring free medical aid to underdeveloped nations. Since 1978 Mercy Ships has

·        Performed more than 67,000 surgeries

·        Treated over 572,000 patients

·        Trained more than 5,800 local health-care teachers

·        Trained over 32,100 local medical professionals in their area of expertise

·        Taught over 164,000 local people in basic health care

·        Completed over 1,100 community development projects focusing on water and sanitation, education, infrastructure development and agriculture.

Funding for Mercy Ships is provided primarily through private donations. Volunteers serving on the ships and field contribute monthly fees, enabling Mercy Ships to deliver medical and development services for a fraction of the usual cost.

Puyallup Rotary meets at Charlie’s every Wednesday at noon.  Guests are always welcome.
