Mudslide Threat Will Keep Pioneer Way Closed

The detour around the area, east of Shaw Road, will remain in place.

PUYALLLUP, WA - East Pioneer Way will remain closed over the Presidents Day weekend due to the threat of new slides.

A landslide on Thursday closed a section of East Pioneer Way near Shaw Road East. The city has been told that rains coming this weekend might cause more mudslides.

Police initially reported the slide around 6 a.m. Thursday. The mudslide was blocking part of the road along the 3400 block of East Pioneer Way.

This is the second time within the last two weeks that a section of East Pioneer Way has been closed. Police and city officials closed the road overnight on Feb. 9 for a slide near 33rd Street Southeast (just east of Shaw Road East).
