This year 33 law enforcement agencies will sponsor a child to participate in the event.

From WSCJTC: The Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) will hold its Chief For a Day celebration on Thursday, August 16, 2018, marking the 20th anniversary of this event.
In partnership with local law enforcement agencies and the communities of Washington State, Chief For a Day is about celebrating the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life- threatening or chronic illness.
This year 33 law enforcement agencies will sponsor a child to participate in the event. Each agency will provide their honorary “Chief” or “Sheriff” with a hand-tailored uniform and the children and their families will participate in a day they will never forget. The children and their families will start the day with a private meet and greet with the motorcadestaging at ShoWare Center in Kent. Sports teams, mascots, and other local celebrities will be meeting with the children and their families while the motorcade is set up. The children and families will then be transported to the WSCJTC by full police motorcade that will leave the ShoWare Center in Kent, WA, at 9:45 AM and travel to the WSCJTC arriving in Burien around 10:15 AM. The community is encouraged to line the motorcade route to show their support:

Start – 9:30 AM: ShoWare Center – 625 W James St, Kent, WA 98032
1. Head west on W James St.
2. Turn left on Washington Ave N.
3. Turn right on WA-516 W/S Kent Des Moines Road.
4. Slight right on WA-99N.
5. Turn left on S 216th St.
6. Turn right on 24th/26th Ave S.
7. Continue straight onto 28th Ave S.
8. Turn left on S 188th St.
9. Continue straight onto Des Moines Memorial Drive.
10. Turn left at 1st Ave S.
11. Destination will be on the left.
10:15 AM: WSCJTC – 19010 1st Ave S, Burien, WA 98148
Upon arrival to the WSCJTC, the sponsored children will be sworn in as chiefs and sheriffs, have lunch with attendees and academy recruits, and then participate in outside displays and demos provided by law enforcement agencies and criminal justice entities including K-9 units, bicycle patrols, SWAT, rifle units, and more.
Special guests for the swearing in ceremony include Lieutenant Governor Habib, Secretary of State Wyman, and past CFAD alumni and their families.
Event times are as follows:
Motorcade arrival: 10:15 AM
Swearing In Ceremony: 11:00 AM
Lunch: Noon
Outside Displays & Demos: 1:00-3:00 PM

open to the public and we encourage children and families to attend.
