Pierce County Parks Prepare To Reopen Tuesday

Pierce County is sharing updated protocols ahead of all parks and trailheads reopening on Tuesday, May 5.

TACOMA, WA — Pierce County Parks released its reopening plans ahead of relaxed rules on outdoor recreation set to go into effect across the state Tuesday.

Chambers Creek Regional Park will open first on Friday, May 1, and all county parks and trailhead parking lots will reopen May 5. Outdoor areas will be open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily. Restrooms, playgrounds, rec centers, athletic fields and picnic shelters will remain closed.

Under the state's amended rules, public gatherings, sports and other group activities are prohibited, and parks may be closed if they become crowded.

County officials have established an updated list of safety protocols for visitors, and encourage all residents to use parks nearest their homes, limit visits to under two hours, avoid contact with others and wear masks.

All state parks and public lands will be allowed to open on Tuesday, but visitors are encouraged to check the current status of each park before they head out the door. The governor's eased restrictions also allow for recreational fishing, hunting and golf to resume, provided appropriate health guidelines and social distancing measures are followed.
