Puyallup Detective Saves Puppy From Locked Car

The puppy was hiding under the dashboard because it was the only shady spot in the car, police reported.

PUYALLUP, WA - It can't be repeated enough: do not leave pets - or kids - locked inside a car with the windows rolled up. It's deadly, even when temperatures are only in the 70s.

Over the weekend, a Puyallup police detective working a shift at the state fair responded to the Don’s Drive Inn parking lot on a report of a puppy trapped in a locked car. The detective and some baristas from a nearby coffee stand were able to use a coat hanger to unlock the door and release the puppy.

Police said the puppy was hiding under the car's dashboard because it was the only shady spot in the car. The puppy was OK, and the baristas gave it water to drink.

The detective tracked down the registered owner, a woman, who told police that she had let her brother borrow the car. She was aghast that the dog, named Bunny, was left inside the car. The woman responded to the scene to take Bunny home.
