The 62-year-old was hit Tuesday night in Graham, according to Washington State Patrol.

PUYALLUP, WA - A 62-year-old Puyallup man was hit by a car Tuesday night when he stopped along SR 161 in Graham to clear debris blocking the road, according to Washington State Patrol. The accident happened around 4 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes near 264th Street East.

David Scharpf was standing along the shoulder of SR 161 trying to stop traffic so he could get to the debris blocking the road. A car driven by Gayle Huseby, 79, of Graham, did not stop in time, hit the debris, left the roadway, and then hit Scharpf.

Huseby's 2000 Toyota Corolla ended up on its roof along the side of the road. Huseby was taken to Madigan Hospital for evaluation.
