Puyallup Police To Debut New Anti-Crime Efforts Thursday
Police don't want you to get your stuff stolen, so two new initiatives are being rolled out.

PUYALLUP, WA - If you're a regular reader of the Puyallup police blotter, you know that car prowls are one of the most frequent crimes that occur in the city. Following right behind car prowls are thefts from homes and buildings.
In 2017, there were almost 2,000 reported theft incidents - about 600 were car prowls, and 200 were thefts from a building. There were also more than 250 burglary/breaking-entering reports, according to the department's 2017 annual report.
So on Thursday, the department is rolling out two new anti-crime efforts to reduce these types of crimes (it should be noted: thefts dropped about 10 percent in 2017 compared to 2016).

The "Lock It or Lose It" campaign will focus on car thefts. Police will move a car with a traffic cone on top around the city. Inside the car will be items that are commonly stolen. Police hope the attention-grabbing cone will remind locals to lock their cars.
The second campaign is #9pmroutine. The campaign will use social media to remind Puyallup residents to check that their homes are locked each night at 9 p.m. (and also your garage and car, if it's in the driveway).
