Downed Trees and Power Outages: Puyallup Hit Hard By Windstorm
Crews were busy Wednesday cleaning up after a strong wind event.

PUYALLUP, WA - A strong wind event overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday caused damage around the city ranging from downed trees to shuttered schools.
About 2,600 people in the South Hill area awoke Wednesday morning to a blackout. At the same time, the school district delayed the start time at Zieger Elementary and canceled classes at Rogers High School.
During the morning rush hour, crews had to clear a tree that fell across Wildwood Park Drive near Manorwood Drive. That incident caused some traffic delays, but crews were able to clear the road by around 9 a.m.

But Puyallup parks appeared to suffer the most after the wind event. Bradley Lake Park and Wildwood Park were both closed Wednesday so crews could clean up debris. A large tree in Pioneer Park also had to be cleaned up. The city also closed the Riverwalk Trail due to danger from high winds.
A portion of the Riverwalk Trail - between Veteran's Park and 20th Street Northwest - was reopened Wednesday afternoon. The section between State Road 512 and East Main Avenue remained closed Wednesday evening.
