Puyallup Woman Faces Charge Over Wednesday 512 Crash

The woman was involved in a crash involving a WSDOT vehicle early Wednesday following an earlier fatal crash.

PARKLAND, WA - A woman driving an SUV that crashed into a Washington State Department of Transportation vehicle after a fatal crash along SR 512 is facing a vehicular assault charge. Just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, a driver died after crashing into the back of a semitrailer parked near the SR 7 interchange. A WSDOT vehicle was on scene to provide assistance, which is when the driver of SUV rear-ended it.

Megan Webb, 21, was seriously injured when she crashed her Honda CRV into the WSDOT vehicle. The passenger in her car, Hannah Webb, 21, of Graham, was also injured. Both were taken to Tacoma General for treatment. The incident is still under investigation, but state patrol intends to pursue a vehicular assault charge, the department said.

The driver of the WSDOT vehicle, Kathy Vatter, 58, of Lakewood, was not injured, according to state patrol.

According to state patrol, Webb hit Vatter's vehicle as Vatter was setting up signs to redirect traffic around the fatal semitrailer crash scene. Webb's SUV crossed all lanes of traffic and hit the jersey barrier. Vatter's truck had its emergency lights on, according to state patrol.
