Train Hits Pedestrian In Puyallup
Passenger trains were delayed after a pedestrian was hit and killed west of Puyallup Station.
PUYALLUP, WA — Sounder and Amtrak trains encountered delays through Pierce County after a pedestrian was struck on the northbound tracks near 7th Street Northwest and West Stewart Avenue in Puyallup. BNSF said a freight train traveling between Tacoma and Puyallup used emergency brakes but could not avoid hitting the man. This is the 15th death on BNSF tracks in Washington this year.
According to Puyallup PD, the person hit was an adult man, and initial indications point toward him being on the tracks intentionally.
During the investigation, passenger trains were allowed to pass through the area at low speeds, but freight traffic was stopped as detectives worked the scene. Sound Transit said south line Sounder trains saw significant delays, and buses were sent to meet passengers as necessary and move them further down the line. The scene cleared shortly before 5 p.m. but travelers should expect to see some residual delays.
