What Should Be THE Federal Government's Role In Agriculture:

What policies are best to support healthy agriculture and food supply is the timely topic of the February 8th meeting of East Pierce Unit of the LWV of Tacoma-Pierce County. Non-members who wish to express their view are welcome. Traditionally the government has overseen farm subsidies and regulations for safe food production. But agriculture has changed greatly over the years.  Consider the widespread use of new chemicals, antibiotics for growth enhancement, demands for accurate food labeling, and much more. A League committee has studied the information, summarized it, and has made available the results of their efforts in the February Voter.
Go to www..lwvwa.org/tacoma. Leagues across the country will discuss this topic in February to attempt to come to a consensus on policies that should be supported and lobbied for at local and national level.  The success of our efforts depends on the members being prepared for discussion after reading the information.
