2 Redmond LWSD Students Win Top Writing Awards

REDMOND, WA — Two Lake Washington School District students from Redmond earned top prizes in this year's Scholastic Art and Writing competition, according to the district.

Redmond High School junior Marina Chen won gold for her poem "Final Sermon," and won a silver award for the poem "Backwards Stages." Evergreen Middle School 8th-grader Kaaviya Uthirapandian won a silver award for her dramatic script "The Golden Locket."

An estimated 340,000 students entered the Scholastic contest this year, but Uthirapandian and Chen were among just 2,700 who came away with honors.

Dozens more LWSD students won awards for art and writing in the Scholastic semifinals, which were given through Cornish College. Those students and their works include:
