2014 Redmond Town Center Sponsored - VALA Artist in Residence [AIR] at RTC

VALA Eastside is seeking a visual artist or team of visual artists to serve as “Artist in Residence” at Redmond Town Center for the summer months in 2014. The VALA Artist in Residence [AIR] Program was started in 2013 as a way to give local artists the opportunity to develop and create art and implement it in a way that creates a strong connection to the local community.   This year, Redmond Town Center (RTC) will be sponsoring a visual artist or team of visual artists to work on a site specific permanent art installation located at Redmond Town Center on the wall of the main stairs in front of the water feature in Center Plaza.  The space is from the ground floor up the landing of the stairs, and follows the stair tread on either side.  Each artist will be requested to measure the space to make sure their artwork conforms to its limitations.

Redmond Town Center is looking for something colorful and unique that will showcase one of our local artists, and there will be a plaque as part of the art, that recognizes that artist and the year it was installed.

Artists will be selected through a two part application process that will consist of a submission of application materials including a formal written proposal, and an interview.   Interviews will be conducted in June 2014.   Deadline to apply is Friday, June 6th, 2014 @ 5pm.

Resident artists are given a stipend of ~$5000 to develop their two-month project and use of a location on-site at RTC to work from and install the permanent artwork and run any programs or events associated with it.  Additionally, VALA staff offer support to the project in many ways including assistance with project development, installation, logistics, marketing and public events.
