SEATTLE, WA — King County has partnered with Safeway and UFCW Local 21 to distribute 750,000 face coverings at nearly five dozen Safeway stores. Beginning Monday, shoppers at 59 Safeway locations in the county can pick up two reusable face coverings for each member of their household — up to a dozen.

"Even in a pandemic, most people still end up at the grocery store on a regular basis, which makes it a great place to distribute free protective gear," said Faye Gunther, president of UFCW 21. "We know from experience that when people have access to free masks, they're more likely to use them and less likely to be confrontational with people enforcing health and safety rules."
The latest distribution plan is part of the county's goal to hand out 25 million face coverings throughout the region. To date, more than 14 million disposable and reusable masks have already been delivered to community organizations, chambers of commerce and via local partnerships, according to the county.
