Board Picks New Lake Wash. SD Superintendent

The board voted Friday evening to hire one of three finalists for the superintendent job.

REDMOND, WA - The Lake Washington School District board on Friday night selected a replacement for Superintendent Dr. Traci Pierce, who is moving into a new job with the district.

The board selected Lincoln, Neb., Associate Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Jane Stavem as the district's new superintendent. The board voted Friday morning after a public town hall with all three of the final candidates on Thursday night.

“We want to thank all the staff, parents, employee groups, students, partners, and community members who participated in the superintendent search process,” said Board President Siri Bliesner in a statement. “We appreciate everyone who took time to participate in the process, to submit questions, and provide feedback following the town halls. Your input was very valuable to the board in making its decision.”

Stavem began her career as an educator in Minnesota as a music teacher. She went on to become a school principal, and eventually became superintendent of schools in Blair, Neb. The board still have to negotiate an employment contract to bring Stavem to Redmond.
