Civil Air Patrol: Rotary Scholarship Gives Cadets a Taste of Flight

Redmond Rotary establishes a flying scholarship for Civil Air Patrol cadets.

I had the great pleasure of being invited to the Redmond Rotary meeting yesterday at the Redmond Marriott Hotel. Our squadron Cadet Deputy Commander C/2d Lt Kelly Walls accompanied me.

After a wonderful lunch, Kelly and I were each given the opportunity to give the Rotary members a brief update on our squadron’s activities and achievements.

Kelly spoke about her experiences flying gliders at Desert Eagle Flight Encampment last summer. Over 30 Civil Air Patrol cadet student pilots from across the state attend this annual activity in Ephrata, Wash.

The highlight of the day came when Rotary President-Elect Stephen Bozick presented Overlake Squadron with a donation of $1,025 from the Rotary membership to support the dreams of our cadets to become pilots. Our squadron hopes to have five cadets begin their flying lessons at Desert Eagle this summer.

Cadets can start flying gliders at age 14. More information: www.overlakecap.org
