Prisms and Refractions: Exploring Memory and Emotion from Unusual Angles in Writing

Poet Emily Dickinson famously writes, “Tell all the truth but tell it slant,” inviting authors to convey their own truths using fresh and unexpected approaches.

In this workshop, poet and memoirist Catherine Broadwall will guide VALA visitors through exercises that will help them do just that. Using tools such as fabulism and braided essay techniques, participants will experiment with ways to express familiar material in new ways. All experience levels welcome. Just bring your favorite writing supplies and a healthy sense of adventure.

What to expect (90 minutes): Writing, reading, sharing

Who it’s for: Adults and young adults—writers, artists, creatives, and anyone seeking inspiration and direction.

This event is free and open to the public.
