Saturday Speaker Series: Pavement and Plucky Girls: 1920s Tales from Washington’s First Highway.
On September 12, the Redmond Historical Society kicks off its 2026 Fall Saturday Speaker Series with Humanities Washington speaker and storyteller Teresa André and her talk, “Pavement and Plucky Girls: 1920s Tales from Washington’s First Highway.”
Travel 1920s Washington along the Yellowstone Trail, one of the nation’s first modern highways, which stretched from Washington to Massachusetts—and included Redmond’s “Red Brick Road”!
Meet the bootleggers, bachelors, flappers, and young people who embraced the freedom and upheaval brought by the automobile. Imagine girls driving without a male escort!
Cost: Free to Society members, with a suggested donation of $5 for non-members.
