Celebrate Green Redmond Day In October

Green Redmond Day is a tree-planting event at Redmond city parks.

REDMOND, WA - Green Redmond Day is a community-wide tree planting effort that takes place on Saturday, October 28 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Organized planting events will be held at numerous park sites, and the community is welcome to find an event and volunteer their time through registering at www.greenredmond.org under the “events” tab. Advanced registration is strongly encouraged as some sites will fill up.

The Green Redmond Partnership that puts on Green Redmond Day is between the City of Redmond, Forterra and dedicated volunteers. This partnership has been working since 2009 to bring over 1,000 acres of forested parkland into active management through the removal of non-native, invasive plants in addition to planting native trees and shrubs.

Green cities throughout the region will be holding planting events in October and November. Redmond is one partner in a larger, regional effort that includes the cities of Everett, Kent, Kirkland, Puyallup, Seattle, Snoqualmie, Tacoma, Tukwila, and Puyallup. These cities are working together to restore and maintain over 9,000 acres of publicly-owned urban natural areas and forests.

“It is through the participation of dedicated Forest Stewards and community volunteers that the Green Redmond Partnership can continue its efforts in the restoration of hundreds of forested parkland acres,” said Council President Hank Margeson. “In addition to ensuring the health of future forests, participants are also building a stronger sense of community by working towards a common goal.”

Everyone is encouraged to participate. No experience is necessary, and tools will be provided along with instructions on how to plant trees to ensure a long and healthy life. Green Redmond Day is an excellent learning experience for kids and aspiring gardeners alike. Register today!
