Death Of Redmond Woman, 70, Accidental: Police

The woman was killed while crossing Avondale Road early Friday morning.

REDMOND, WA - The 70-year-old woman who was killed by a driver along Avondale Road early Friday morning was crossing in the middle of the block when she was hit, according to Redmond police. The accident happened around 4 a.m. along the 11400 block of Avondale Road, which is just north of Union Hill Road.

Police said the woman was walking toward the PCC market, which is about two miles north of where the woman was hit. She died at the scene of the collision.

The driver of the vehicle cooperated with police and did not appear intoxicated, according to the department. The woman's identity was not immediately released.

Redmond police used the accident to remind pedestrians to wear light or reflective clothing while walking at night, and to cross streets at crosswalks.

"Redmond police would like to remind people to wear lights or reflective clothing when walking during hours of darkness, always use crosswalks, and obey pedestrian traffic signals," the department wrote in a statement.
