Dog Left In Car, Owner Gets Arrested: Redmond Police

It was bound to happen: a Redmond pet owner left their dog in a car in the sweltering heat on Wednesday.

REDMOND, WA - Unfortunately, it was bound to happen. A dog owner in Redmond left their pooch inside the car, and with all four windows rolled up. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Redmond police, right around the time temperatures were nearing the 90-degree mark.

The dog survived and was taken to the vet to be checked out. The owner, however, was arrested.

Police departments around the region have been warning pet owners and parents not to leave kids or animals in cars when it's hot outside. The interior temperature of a car can reach 110 degrees within about 10 minutes when the exterior temperature is 90 degrees.

Earlier this week, the Suquamish police department caught attention for warning citizens that its officers will not hesitate to break car windows if they see a dog or - heaven forbid - a child inside a hot car.

Even still, the Mason County Sheriff's Department reported on Tuesday that it had already rescued two dogs that day from hot cars.
