Family Drum Circle Provides Outlet For Musicians Young and Old

Soul Food Books in Redmond hosts the event one Saturday every month.

Musicians of all ages gathered at last Saturday for the coffee shop's monthly family drum circle event, coordinated by Soul Food staff member Alexandra Be.

Soul Food Co-Owner Sara Pelfrey said the shop began holding the drum circles about six years ago at the store's former location on Gilman Street. In addition to drums, participants also use hollow musical tubes called Boom Whackers to make noise.

“They’re really, really good for kids,” Pelfrey said.
